What Constitutes Ragging?
As per UGC/AICTE regulations, ragging includes any act which causes physical or psychological harm to any student:
- Teasing, embarrassing, or humiliating any student.
- Forcing a student to do any act that causes shame or discomfort.
- Verbal abuse, threats, or intimidation of any kind.
- Any form of physical assault or harassment.
- Psychological harm, mental torture, or academic disruption.
Punishment for Ragging
Punishment varies based on the nature and severity of the incident, and may include:
- Immediate cancellation of admission.
- Suspension from attending classes and academic privileges.
- Withholding results, scholarships, and certificates.
- Debarring from examinations and campus placements.
- Filing of an FIR and initiating criminal proceedings with local police.
